The most beautiful synagogue in Europe – our list is here.

Centers of worship, community life and history:
Europe’s synagogues

“In your opinion, what’s the most beautiful synagogue in Europe?” Thanks for your responses to our – absolutely impossible – question. “Absolutely impossible” because – as the following listing shows – Europe is full of magnificent temples, each with its own style of architecture and history. The styles range from Portuguese Baroque to Neo-Oriental and Jugendstyl and to Post-Modern. And the interiors! Each of them a treasure chest of works of worship!

Each of these synagogues – like the nearly 1,000 others in Europe – testifies to the survival of Judaism during the many centuries of persecution and discrimination, pogroms and the Holocaust. Each is therefore to be cherished.
